Fire Sprinklers:
Do all sprinklers discharge at the same time?
No. Each sprinkler has a heat sensitive element and act independently from each other. While a total flooding or “deluge” system does exist, this type of system is used only in special applications. It most cases, a fire will be contained with the activation of just one or two sprinklers.
Are sprinkler systems expensive?
Cost depends on a number of variables including the size of the area being protected, and the type of protection required. Compared to the potential cost of not having an adequate fire protection system, the costs are very reasonable. People are usually pleasantly surprised by just how affordable a sprinkler system can be.
What kind of qualifications do Stumpf Fire Protection sprinkler fitters have?
All of our fitters are unionized and have completed a 4 year apprenticeship program through Union Local 853 and passed a government Certificate of Qualifications (C of Q) exam. Sprinkler Fitting is a recognized Red Seal trade.
I am worried about water damage. How will this be minimized?
There are a variety of options available to minimize the potential for water damage or accidental discharge, while still maintaining adequate fire protection. It should be noted that even with conventional fire sprinkler systems, accidental discharge is extremely rare and generally not a concern. FM Global, a leading authority in fire protection concluded through a study that approximately 1 in 16 million sprinkler heads will leak or discharge due to mechanical defect. These numbers speak for themselves.
